If I require surgery, where will this be performed?
Dr Kliman has a weekly operating list at the Epworth Freemasons Day Procedure Centre. A full estimate of fees will be provided to you and you will be asked to sign a financial consent. If you do not have private insurance and still wish to proceed with surgery through the private system, we will provide you with a quote from the hospital and anesthetist.
Are my medical records kept private and confidential?
Your medical records are handled with the highest respect for your privacy. They will not be released to a third party without your signed consent. We endorse very strict confidentiality requirements concerning your medical records.
What happens if I have my period on the day of my consultation?
This depends upon the reason for your consultation. Some procedures such as a cervical screening test or colposcopy cannot be performed if you are bleeding. Please contact our office and speak to one of our registered nurses if you are uncertain. They will be able to advise you and if necessary, reschedule your appointment to another day.
What to expect at your first gynaecological appointment?
At your initial consultation, a full medical and surgical history will be taken and current medication will be noted. You may be asked about relevant family history and questions about your fertility/ pregnancy history, your menstrual cycle, and your general health. Your current gynecological concerns or condition will be discussed.
A medical examination may be needed to be performed.
Depending upon your presenting symptoms, Dr Kliman may perform an ultrasound in his office, perform a breast and abdominal examination, check your blood pressure, arrange blood tests, perform a cervical screening test and discuss medication including the contraceptive pill or hormone replacement therapy if indicated.
Following this, Dr Kliman will have a comprehensive discussion about the treatment options available for your specific condition so that you can make an informed decision.
This appointment will take approximately 30 minutes.
What other procedures are performed in your consulting rooms?
We have a dedicated procedure room where Dr Kliman can perform a vulvoscopy if there is a vulval or vaginal skin concern. If you require a colposcopy due to abnormal changes on a cervical screening test (previously known as a pap smear) this can also be performed in our office. If there are any abnormal areas that require further investigations, a biopsy may be taken under local anaesthetic. We can also insert intra uterine devices or insert an etonogestrel rod device in our procedure room.
With all of these procedures, we understand that some women find this type of procedure intrusive. Patients are treated with care, dignity and respect. One of our experienced registered nurses will be present to assist Dr Kliman with these procedures and to offer the patient support and ensure that they are comfortable during and after the procedure.
Does your practice send out reminders if I need to come back and see Dr Kliman?
Yes – you will be sent a reminder for any follow up appointments as well as reminders for cervical screening tests, mammograms and bone density studies.
How is payment accepted for my consultation?
Payment is required on the day and we accept credit or debit card or cash. If you have a valid referral and you are registered with Medicare, our office is able to process your account through Medicare so that any rebate will be paid directly to your account.
How long will I need to wait for an appointment to see Dr Kliman?
We endeavour to see our patients as soon as possible in particular if you have any of the listed conditions;
- Post-menopausal bleeding
- Severe heavy menstrual bleeding
- High grade abnormal cervical screening test
- Acute pelvic pain
- Vulval and vaginal skin conditions

How do I book an appointment?
Will my GP be notified of my treatment?
Dr Kliman will correspond with you referring GP and any other relevant specialists involved with your care on a regular basis. They will be notified of any planned treatment and recommended follow up. Dr Kliman will also send each patient a copy of the letter sent to their GP after they are seen. We value communication as an essential part of our treatment plan.
Do I need a GP referral to see Dr Kliman?
A GP referral is required by Medicare to ensure that patients are seeing the correct provider for their particular condition. This way you are entitled to a Medicare rebate. Most GP referrals will last for 12 months unless otherwise specified on the referral by the GP. Specialist referrals only last for three months.
However, if you do not wish to provide a GP referral, you can still see Dr Kliman but you will not be able to claim a refund from Medicare..
